An Encyclical by John Paul II where he speaks of the church in America and the New Evangelization. In the IV General Episcopal Conference of Latin America in Santo Domingo, the church in America celebrated the fifth centennial of the preaching of the Gospel in their land. On this very day, they also celebrated fifteen years of the New Evangelization in America (October 12th of 1992).

Its objective was to open new horizons and give a renewed push to evangelization. Other important themes in the conference were “the problems related to justice and solidarity between all the nations in America.” The conscience of a universal evangelistic mission which the church has received must remain alive as it has always been demonstrated by the history and pilgrimage of God’s people in America. The Pope makes calls the universal church and in particular to the church in America, to remain open to the mission “ad gentes.” That is, a new evangelization carrying the objective of “many pastoral projects” that won’t limit themselves to “revitalize the faith of the current faithful, but that will seek to announce Christ in places where He is not known.”

"Vocation and Mission in the Church and in the World Twenty Years after the Second Vatican Council"

From that distant day the call of the Lord Jesus "You go into my vineyard too" never fails to resound in the course of history: it is addressed to every person who comes into this world

The voice of the Lord clearly resounds in the depths of each of Christ's followers, who through faith and the sacraments of Christian initiation is made like to Jesus Christ, is incorporated as a living member in the Church and has an active part in her mission of salvation.

“God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” (1 Jn 4:16).

Concretely, what does this path of ascent and purification entail?

How might love be experienced so that it can fully realize its human and divine promise?
